I like the question you raised, "Will blogs take over websites?"

There's people who have portfolio sites that use the Wordpress blog platform to manage their site. Eric-Powell.com: looks like any other portfolio website but allows each post associated with categories and social tags.

There are magazines or news sites now that use the Wordpress blog platform to manage their site.
XXLmag.com: click on any news headlines and notice how visitors can comment, send to a friend, read responses, navigate through their directory (aka categories)... it's a blog!
